Despite what people may believe, the art scene in Miami is pretty great and it’s improving all the time. When a lot of people think of Miami and art, they assume Art Basel is the only noteworthy mention, but that’s simply not true.
Case in point: I recently spent a night at Aventura Mall, checking out the latest addition to their world-class Arts Aventura Mall collection (in case you don’t know, the Arts Aventura Mall is an initiative to showcase sculptures and installations from global and local artists, right in the heart of this bustling mall). They recently welcomed the LOVE sculpture by the late, great Robert Indiana to their collection.
I have seen a version of this very famous pop-art sculpture in New York City and I’m so excited that I can now view this piece so close to home. Robert Indiana, who passed away last year, based this sculpture on the idea that the word ‘love’ is a usable element of art, and that speaks to me because I believe that love, in all forms, is expressed differently and takes on a different meaning for each person who experiences it, the same way a moving piece of art does for a viewer. Love is a global language, but it’s a very personal one, and it’s something to be celebrated constantly.
Indiana’s LOVE sculpture is on permanent display at Aventura Mall, so I’m definitely going to pay it a visit any chance I get. FYI, if you’re going to check it out, it’s right by the Cartier and Fendi boutiques (how convenient).
